Dhaka Boat Club asked to vacate illegally occupied land

Accusing the Dhaka Boat Club authorities of occupying over 10 acres of government land illegally, Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) today asked the club president to vacate the land within next seven days.
A letter signed by ML Saikat, executive engineer of Water Development Board, Dhaka, sent to the club president read if they do not release the land which they occupied illegally, they would have to face legal action.
Categorising the land as flood flow zone located on bank of the Turag river, the letter said the club authorities have occupied total 10.735 acres of land illegally in Baro Kakor mouza under Savar upazila by the Dhaka flood protection embankment.
Earlier, the letter also said BWDB authorities permitted the boat club to use 55 decimals of land on the same mouza upon basis of an application.
Yet, the club authorities have occupied additional 10.735 acres of government land and erected boundary wall around it which is not only illegal, but also intrusion to government property.
