OC files GD following criminal’s threat on Facebook in Ctg

Officer-in-Charge of Baizid Bostami Police Station under Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) filed a general diary early today against a criminal after he issued a threat against the police officer on Facebook Live last night.
During the Facebook live session at around 10:39pm, Sazzad Hossain declared that he would not spare the OC under any circumstances. He also verbally abused the OC in the "Chittagonian" dialect.
Sazzad, alias Choto Sazzad, is a top-listed criminal in Baizid Bostami and its surrounding areas. He initially entered the world of crime as an associate of another figure, Sazzad Hossain, a former top Shibir cadre who is currently residing abroad. Under the senior Sazzad's influence, Choto Sazzad has become increasingly reckless, establishing a reign of terror in the area, according to police sources.
To date, Sazzad has been implicated in at least 10 cases involving charges of murder, possession of firearms, extortion, and other criminal activities. In 2023, he was arrested by Chandgaon police with illegal firearms but was later released on bail, after which he resumed extortion and other illicit operations.
On December 4, Sazzad managed to evade police arrest by opening fire when officers raided a flat in Baizid Bostami's Oxygen area to arrest him. Two people were injured in the shootout.
Confirming the incident, OC of Baizid Bostami Police Station, Arifur Rahman, who received the threat, told The Daily Star, "Sazzad is a listed armed criminal, and police have been actively pursuing him. On Tuesday, police arrested six of his gang members who were found in possession of sharp weapons and were allegedly involved in extortion in Baizid. Enraged by this, Sazzad issued threats against me."
In his live broadcast, Sazzad claimed that OC Arif was deliberately implicating him in various criminal activities. He further said that no matter where in the country he was, he would be caught and beaten in the city's Oxygen area. He vowed never to surrender, even if it cost him his life.
Local sources said Sazzad and his gang of 10 to 15 armed members operate in Baizid Bostami, Anannya Residential Area, Shitaljharna, Kalarpool, and adjacent areas, including Kuwaish in Hathazari upazila and Hajirpul in Chandgaon. He is known to intimidate people by firing at business establishments and residences if his extortion demands are not met, creating widespread panic in the community.
On October 21 last year, his gang members executed a businessman in broad daylight in the Chandgaon area.
