Biman's advance ticket booking, blocking now zero: MD

Ticket blocking and advance seat booking without passenger names or passports in Biman Bangladesh Airlines is now nearly zero, said Biman MD and CEO Shafiqur Rahman today.
He said this while talking to the executive committee of the Aviation and Tourism Journalist's Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) at Biman headquarters in the capital's Kurmitola.
He emphasised that any employee found involved in ticketing irregularities is immediately removed from their department.
Regarding concerns over ticket blocking and artificial seat crisis on flights to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, he said, "Currently, there is no advance seat booking without passenger details or ticket blocking at Biman. I personally monitor the situation. Those previously found guilty were reassigned to other departments, away from ticketing."
Regarding baggage management issues at the Dhaka Airport, he acknowledged ongoing infrastructural limitations but assured that improvements are underway.
"If we receive complaints, we take immediate action. We hope that once the airport's third terminal becomes operational, baggage handling will improve significantly."
To ensure transparency, body-worn cameras are now mandatory for Biman staff handling luggage.
"Employees wear these cameras during duty and return them after shifts. We have also purchased 150 additional cameras to enhance surveillance," he added.
Regarding preparations for hajj flights, the Biman MD said Biman's current fleet is sufficient to operate scheduled flights smoothly.
However, due to high demand for aircraft during hajj season, flights on one or two routes may be temporarily reduced, with those aircraft being allocated for hajj flights.
The MD also said Biman is making all-out efforts to minimise flight delays, improve staff behaviour, and make the airline more passenger-friendly.
During the meeting, ATJFB President Tanzim Anwar advised Biman to take necessary steps to enhance passenger experiences.
