Toyota Motor Corporation reported a 6.2% decline in global production for November, marking the 10th consecutive monthly drop, despite achieving a second straight month of increased global sales driven by strong demand in the United States and China, according to a recent report by Reuters.

Toyota produced 869,230 vehicles in November, a steeper decline compared to the 0.8% fall recorded in October. In Japan, which accounts for approximately one-third of Toyota's global production, output dropped by 9.3%, partially attributed to a two-day production halt at its Fujimatsu and Yoshiwara plants.

Global sales, however, rose by 1.7% year-on-year to 920,569 vehicles in November, setting a record for the month.

For the January-to-November period, Toyota's global production was 5.2% lower than the same period last year, totalling around 8.75 million vehicles. Global sales during the same period fell by 1.2%, as per the report. Toyota's production and sales figures include vehicles from its Lexus luxury brand but exclude those from its group companies, Hino and Daihatsu.

In response to increasing competition from Chinese brands such as BYD, Toyota is reportedly planning to establish a standalone plant in Shanghai to manufacture electric vehicles for its Lexus brand starting around 2027, according to Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper.
